Janyn is not Scottish born, but dancing has always been a passion of hers. Her father started her, at four years old, with French Canadian dancing followed by ballroom and Latin at ten. She was involved in a folk dancing group, called the Coeur d’Or, by 14, followed by the Feux Follets at 16. By this time, when going to workshops, she learned a lot of Scottish country dances. After moving out west to Medicine Hat, where she continued to do Scottish country dancing, she took her preliminary certificate, in 1982, under John Middleton at TAC Summer School. She achieved her full certificate, in 1984, under Miss Anderson at St. Andrew’s, Scotland. Since then she has taught all levels of classes from children to seniors, technique classes and demonstration groups. Being a Highland dance teacher as well, Janyn was invited to teach ladies’ step dancing, along with miscellaneous workshops, at TAC Summer School.
